kitties in the dark
I went down to the courtyard last night to find a crying kitty. My balcony is on an upper floor and going out on the balcony I could hear this kitty crying downstairs in the courtyard. It was the “something is wrong” kitty call. So I threw on long pants and sleeves in case it was not a friendly kitty (that happens) and grabbed my keys and headed down there.
Half the courtyard is utterly dark at night here. And the kitty got quiet when I showed up. So I didn’t know which way to go, looking. And. Nothing was moving in the lighted half of the courtyard. So. I walked into the dark.
Walking into that utter dark calling out “here kitty kitty” my brain was on overtime yelling, THIS IS WHEN THE WHOLE MOVIE AUDIENCE SHOUTS “DON’T GO IN THERE!”
But, you know. Kitty. In trouble.
So I trudged into the dark anyway wondering if I was about to be eviscerated by some demonic horror movie monster pretending to be a kitty to lure animal lovers to their doom or what.
(Any film audience would know better, right? Any film audience would be shouting “don’t do that!” at the screen.)
No monsters. Whew!
Found the kitty. (The kitty is totally alive and well yay!) And. I. Lived to fight another day. Yay!
(I also now know I’m toast in any horror movie scenario in which a cat or dog sounds like it is in distress in that dark basement scene. Dammit!)
