screenplay contest despair
I’ve got writers flipping out over not placing in the Austin Film Festival screenplay competition.
Seriously?
Just stop it.
THE PURPOSE OF SCREENPLAY COMPETITIONS IS GET READS AND GET SOLD AND GET THE MOVIE MADE.
Do you need to win a competition to get a script read, a script sold, or a movie made?

Plus, as I recall, AFF doesn’t have very many semifinalists compared to say, Nicholl. So it’s tougher to advance, numbers-wise. Not sure if that’s true, but it used to be.
I’m not really sure how the numbers work with AFF because they have multiple distinct categories. With Nicholl, all the scripts are in one pool. With AFF, they have multiple categories so I don’t know how the numbers play out there.
