nobel peace wtf?
President Obama was just awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
This is really cool considering President Obama just oversaw Congress pass the largest war budget ever in US history: $626 billion dollars to kick the shit out of other countries.
Good job President Obama.
What are we spending on universal healthcare again?

Now I want a Nobel Prize. And a bag a chips. Sadly, they don’t give one out for history. Maybe that’s because historians know the prize’s namesake invented dynamite and sold guns.
Maybe the whole thing isn’t such a bad match after all…
Official Statement From President Obama:
This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I’d been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.
To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize — men and women who’ve inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.
But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it’s also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.
That is why I’ve said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won’t all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it’s recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.
This award — and the call to action that comes with it — does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.
So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we’ve begun together. I’m grateful that you’ve stood with me thus far, and I’m honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.
President Barack Obama
I’ve said it elsewhere…I think it is more an indictment against the former administration than it is any real progress made by the current.
We hope for something positive from the current, but clearly the notion it is possibly interested in dialogue is a far superior position than that put forth by W & Co.
Well, having examined it from a lot of perspectives, I am going with this being a sort of “Welcome back to the world America.” Tattered as we may be at this point, there is at least some reason and sanity reasserting itself in D.C. these days.
There was one night last year when the whole world celebrated. Danced in the streets and the hopes for change and peace were acted out without any violent incidents.
Now, the darkest side of the American public is being exposed over Healthcare.Perhaps that exposure is necessary to show that America has the same problems within as do other counties.
Obama has attempted compromise and he maybe learning that insistence on human rights is the only way to go.
I for one, am proud to have a President that has potential and a plan and the respect of the world community because he does, after all represent us to them.
On the snarky side.
I hope he donates the prize money to ACORN.
I know, a girl can dream, can’t she?
“I hope he donates the prize money to ACORN.”
You are so good at elegant justice.
“it’s also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.”
That’s just about what I said to TOM yesterday. It’s as if he is being blackmailed into pulling out of Afghanistan.
You know Max, I don’t necessarily agree with all of your politics (and vice versa, I expect) but you and my friend Sled always put a fresh perspective on stuff which forces me to rethink my views.
“On the snarky side.
I hope he donates the prize money to ACORN.”
Funny. Someone said the exact same thing on Michelle Malkin’s site! Ah, collective snark!
Think of it this way: “Dear America, thanks for dodging the McCain/Palin bullet.”
