be brave

Sometimes, a task feels overwhelming to me. Too big to take on and I start spiraling.

And then I remember two words.

“Be brave.”

And I whisper that to myself, “Be brave,” and everything is okay and I go do it.

I have done a lot of what look like brave things. Leapt out of moving cars. Storm rushed into burning buildings. Other things I don’t talk about a lot. Survival things. That saved me or someone else. The thing about those things though is, they are all fueled by adrenaline. Something huge is going down. There is no question about whether or not to act. You act. No time to pause. No time to think. It is all adrenaline. And impulse. Reaction.

Adrenaline is easy.

Daily living is hard.

The times I don’t have adrenaline “brave” are the silent times, the daily life times, the times it’s just scary or hard to push forward toward something, anything, that is actually pretty normal. The times I don’t remember I was the girl who leapt out of a moving car or thrashed into a burning building. The times I am just looking at a dumb task that feels like maybe it is too big or maybe I could fail. Especially “maybe I could fail.” And that. Makes. It. Scary. As. Fuck.

That’s when I have to remember two words, “Be brave.”

And then I’m okay.

I don’t know why. It’s like magic words that just release me and let me go. Maybe they make me five again. When I knew I’d crash and burn and didn’t care. That’s what you do when you want to learn something new or accomplish something new. You get on the bike or skateboard, you know you will fall off, and you don’t care. You’d rather not. But you know you will. And you don’t care. Because that’s not failing. That’s learning.

Or maybe I’m just making stuff up to justify why two words work for me.

They totally work.

Be. Brave.

Maybe they’ll work for you.

Love and Kisses,

Your Be Brave Adams Girl
